Braintree Panthers

1991, Granite

Location
Braintree, VTPublic

Get off I 89 at Exit 4. Go to Randolph and head up the steep hill at the four-way stop. Take the left fork and continue until you reach a stop at the top of Braintree Hill. Turn right and go about a half mile to the Braintree Meetinghouse. The sculpture is on the lawn in front of the building.

This piece was commissioned by the Braintree, VT Historical Society in conjunction with Vermont’s Bicentennial. A committee of residents helped decide the subject matter and I designed the sculpture to enable children to easily climb up onto it. We were able to quarry the granite from an abandoned quarry in the town of Braintree.
